The Community
As part of Skystation Cambridge, Futurecity developed a detailed public engagement programme to run alongside the sculpture installation. The universal appeal of Skystation means that there is a particular resonance with communities, encouraging interaction and communication between a diverse range of individuals.
Futurecity, in collaboration with Miller Homes and supported by Cambridge City Council, ran three community workshops in tandem with the launch of Skystation Cambridge. These workshops were intended to engage the participants in looking outside of their classroom and community centre windows, in order to examine their surroundings. In addition they experienced the inner workings of a camera through the sensation of being inside a huge pin hole camera.
Participants from the two school workshops were encouraged to take their own Skyscape photographs, echoing the artist Peter Newman’s art practice. These photographs were then submitted into a competition and the best images selected by a panel of judges. Click on the links below to see the images taken by the pupils in each workshop.
