Miller Homes
Miller Homes Limited is part of The Miller Group, which is the largest privately owned housebuilding, property development and construction business in the UK. The company purchased the development site at George Nuttall Close in 2006 - a former laboratories site - and has worked closely with Cambridge City Council to realise the development that is now being constructed, comprising 182 homes and a new park. As part of the new park, Miller Homes proposed the construction of a fantastic piece of artwork that is now in the form of Peter Newman's Skystation.
We are very excited about the new artwork as this will give a real focus to the new community and engender a sense of place. So perhaps local people will now say, "I'll meet you at the Skystation" as everyone will know where that is.
The Skystation is unique to Cambridge - at least for now - it is expected that others may appear across the UK and beyond in years to come, so Cambridge can say it had the first one.
We have been pleased working with Futurecity on the Skystation project and believe it is important to support innovative public art in new developments to show a commitment to the local area. To this end we also organised community workshops for the schools, college and residents group. We sincerely hope that local people will enjoy the legacy we are leaving behind for many years to come. The Skystation has landed and is here to stay.

Futurecity is an independent cultural agency with unique expertise in urban cultural masterplanning and place-making. For us, culture is the creative glue that binds successful urban places together and makes them attractive to live in.
Futurecity were appointed as cultural consultants by Miller Homes, to develop and deliver a public art strategy for George Nuttall Close, Cambridge. George Nuttall Close not only offers a fantastic opportunity for an internationally renowned artist such as Peter Newman to work with the rich heritage of Cambridge, but also offers the local residents and the wider community, an opportunity to engage with an original contemporary public art project in a new and innovative way, which will enhance and benefit its surroundings.
Futurecity is committed to building sustainable relationships throughout Cambridge and the Eastern region. From our Cambridge base, we are working on public arts strategies linked to some major local development projects including the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Clay & Glebe Farm and Brunswick Square.
We look forward to working more closely with artists, community groups, cultural organisations, council planning, culture and regeneration teams and property sector professionals in the area. Cambridge is a knowledge city, international in its ambitions, whilst valuing and cherishing its regional identity. Futurecity want to support the aims and ambitions of this fast growing region.
