Peter Newman’s Skystation sculpture is located in George Nuttall Park, Cambridge, only one mile away from the Cambridge Science Park and the rich stimuli this provides. The park is located on the corner of Woodhead Drive and George Nuttall Close where the new Miller Homes development of leafy suburban houses, forms the outskirts of Cambridge City Centre. The George Nuttall Park is one of very few open green spaces in the area. As such it will become a key place for families to play, picnic and relax in the summer. It is hoped that the Skystation sculpture will encourage visitors and residents to the park to visually explore their surroundings afresh, as a result of their interaction with the artwork.
As a part of the launch of the Skystation project, Futurecity have run a series of creative community workshops on behalf of Miller Homes, which engage children, teenagers and adults with the concepts that Peter Newman explores in his art practice. The workshops were designed to encourage the residents, school children and teenagers of George Nuttall Close to explore the ideas of the environment, photography and looking.
